-Troopers violently confront civil rights marchers in Alabama
-Race Riots Break Out In Watts, CA leaving large parts of the city burnt and looted and 34 dead
-The Voting Rights Act, guaranteeing African Americans the right to vote becomes law
-Higher Education Act of 1965 is signed into law providing low-interest loans for students in higher education.
-U.S. begins airlift of Cubans wishing to leave Cuba and live in America

-Ranger 8 crashes into the Moon after a successful mission of photographing possible landing sites for the Apollo program
-Ranger 9 sends back live TV broadcast when it crashes on to the moon
-Russian Cosmonaut Aleksei Leonov becomes the first person to walk in space
-U.S. Major Edward H. White II becomes the second human to walk in space

-AFL Championship:– Buffalo Bills won 23-0 over the San Diego Chargers
-NFL Championship: Green Bay Packers won 23-12 over the Cleveland Browns
-Cotton Bowl (1964 season): Arkansas Razorbacks won 10-7 over the Nebraska Cornhuskers to win the FWAA Poll national championship
-Orange Bowl (1964 season): Alabama Crimson Tide loses 21-17 to the Texas Longhorns; Alabama voted national champions by the AP and UPI Coaches Poll
-NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: UCLA wins 91-80
-NBA Finals: Boston Celtics win 4 games to 1 over the Los Angeles Lakers
